History

Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST) is an Institution of higher learning that received accreditation in October 2015 to begin transforming society through offering quality and affordable education. Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST) is a private University licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), under Reg no. UI.PL.028. It is not affiliated to any other institution. The university is wholly owned by an entity known as Mukaira Foundation Limited (MFL). The Mukaira Foundation wanted to bridge the gap by supporting Government in promotion of sciences by starting science based University.

Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST)  reached a historic milestone in 2025 as the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has cleared it for the grant of a Charter. This decision was made during the council’s 78th sitting on January 31, 2025, in accordance with Section 105(3) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act CAP 262.

According to an official letter from NCHE, the Council resolved to recommend the grant of  Charter to the Minister of Education and Sports, who will then submit it to the President for final approval before the gazettement of the University’s charter status. This marks a major step in VUST’s journey toward achieving full accreditation and recognition as a fully chartered University in Uganda.

Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST) is located in the heart of Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, approxi- mately 50km from Mbarara on Mbarara – Kasese Road, branching off at Bushenyi Magistrate’s Court; about 500 metres on Nyaruzinga Road.

VUST aims to provide Science and Technology courses applicable to the rural environment, in a rural setting, with a view to improve the living conditions of the rural communities in the areas that the university serves and the World at large.
