Bushenyi, 2nd August 2024 – This week (29th July to 2nd August), Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST) in Bushenyi received a distinguished delegation from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) for a final inspection visit, a crucial step towards the University’s goal of obtaining a Charter. The inspection team, led by Prof. Callistus Baliddawa, conducted a comprehensive review of the University’s facilities, academic programs, financial and administrative processes.

The NCHE team, under the leadership of Prof. Baliddawa, conducted a thorough review and assessment of various aspects of the University’s operations, including the quality of teaching and research, the adequacy of physical infrastructure, academic offerings, staff qualifications, student support services, and compliance with national education policies as well as the overall governance structure. They engaged in discussions with various stakeholders including members of Board of Trustees, members of the University Governing Council, Management, Academic and Administrative Staff as well as Students Representatives to obtain a holistic understanding of the institution’s performance and strategic direction.

Dr. Enos Rwasheema, the Vice Chancellor of VUST, expressed his excitement about the Inspection, noting its importance in the Institution’s development. “We are thrilled to welcome the NCHE team to our University” Dr. Rwasheema stated. “This inspection represents a pivotal step for us as we strive to attain a Charter. Our Management, staff, and students have all worked tirelessly to uphold high standards of education and administration. We are confident that this visit will showcase our commitment to excellence and the significant progress we have made.”

The Vice Chairperson of the University Council, Mr. Rhobert Korutaro expressed his appreciation about the inspection noting that the findings and recommendations will be instrumental in determining the granting of Charter which will elevate VUST status and a fully licensed institution capable of awarding degrees recognized internationally.

Hon. Mary Karooro Okurut and Mr. Winstone Katushabe members of the Board of Trustees thanked NCHE Team for the inspection. They also appreciated the Council for the good governance and Management for proper running of the University. They noted; “The granting of a Charter will not only enhance the University’s credibility but also broaden opportunities for students and staff alike. It will solidify VUST’s position as a leading educational institution in the region, committed to providing high-quality affordable education and fostering innovation.”

Prof. Callistus Baliddawa, speaking on behalf of the Team, commended the University for its efforts and dedication. He further noted that it is essential for VUST to continuously improve the processes even after the Charter has been granted.

Valley University of Science and Technology which has been in existence for 8 years has become a beacon of knowledge and growth in the Western Region, with a focus on agriculture, business, management, education and technology. With the granting of the Charter on the horizon, the University looks forward to further expand its academic programs and continue empowering students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a dynamic world.
