VUST Students Begin Mid-Semester Examinations
Bushenyi 3rd October 2024 Yesterday marked the beginning of the mid-semester Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) at Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST), as students from various faculties sit for their exams. This is in line with the academic calendar set by the Academic Office, which stipulates that CATs be conducted during the 8th week of each semester.
The CATs are a critical component of the University’s assessment process, designed to gauge students’ understanding of the coursework covered so far. These tests typically contribute a significant portion to the final semester grades, making them an essential aspect of academic performance.
Among the students taking the exams are the University’s freshers, many of whom are experiencing their first-ever University-level exams. The transition from secondary school to University can be overwhelming for new students, but for most, this period represents a defining moment in their academic journey.
“I’m excited but also anxious. This is the first time I’m doing University exams, and I want to do my best,” shared one Tamson Ampaire from the Faculty of Science. Similarly, another fresher Isaac Muramira from the Faculty of Education noted, “The lecturers prepared us well, but I’m still feeling the pressure to perform. It’s a new challenge, and I hope to pass.”
According to Dr. Deusdedit Byabashaija, the Academic Registrar, the 8th week CATs are designed to help students track their progress and prepare adequately for their end-of-semester examinations. “We encourage students to take these assessments seriously, as they are a reflection of their academic preparedness. Continuous assessment allows both students and lecturers to identify areas that need improvement before the final exams,” he stated.
As the exams continue throughout the week up to 10th October 2024, the University community is confident that students will excel. The mid-semester exams are a steppingstone to greater academic achievement, and the lessons learned during this period will undoubtedly help shape their future success at Valley University of Science and Technology.
