Valley University of Science and Technology Hosts NCHE Team for Facility Verification ahead of Starting New Academic Programme

Bushenyi, Uganda — July 31, 2025

Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST), recently granted full Charter status, yesterday welcomed a delegation from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) as part of the verification process for new academic programmes submitted by the University.

The NCHE team was led by Dr. Deborah Rebecca M. Kyazza, and included Dr. Richard Ouma, Egesa Denis, Barbra Namirimo and Lubega Gerald. Their mission was to assess the readiness of the University to roll out the newly proposed programmes, which aim to respond directly to societal and educational needs.

The academic programmes under review include:

Higher Education Access Certificate (HEAC)

Bachelor of Science with Education

Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration

Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration

During the visit, the NCHE team toured several key University facilities including the Science Laboratories, Computer Laboratories, Library, Early Childhood Education Resource Centre, new lecture rooms dedicated for HEAC and the University Farm all designed to provide hands-on, practical training to students.

In her remarks, Dr. Kyazza congratulated the University on attaining its Charter and urged the administration to use this new milestone as a platform to transform lives through relevant and quality education.

“Charter status is not just a badge of honor; it is a call to action.” she said. “We encourage VUST to take the lead in producing graduates who can impact their communities meaningfully.”

The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Enos Rwasheema expressed gratitude to NCHE for their continued guidance and oversight.

“We are deeply honored by this visit. At VUST, we believe that education must be both excellent and accessible. These new programmes are rooted in that belief and we are committed to using our Charter status to expand opportunity, drive innovation and respond to national development goals.” The Vice Chancellor remarked.

 

With these new programmes around the corner, VUST is poised to become a regional hub for skills development and professional growth.
